Cleveland native Whalen has been in the cooking business ever since age 19 when he graduated from the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute. He headed west where he worked for five years in restaurants owned by Wolfgang Puck. These restaurants include Spago, Obachin, Granita, and Chinois.
In 2001, he returned to Cleveland as sous chef at Blue Point Grille. In October 2002, Whalen opened up Fahrenheit, a trendy restaurant located in Tremont, Ohio. In less than a year, he doubled his projected top line dollars. Fahrenheit offers a quality product and innovative menu.
